The ethos of the Foundation is to attract new and additional private investment into community sport in order to increase participation, with a focus on under-represented groups. Please bear in mind that the Foundation has not been established to cover shortfalls under existing funding initiatives.
For revenue applications you will need to have identified and/or secured £50,001 per annum of new and additional private investment to be eligible to apply for match funding. Please note that the Foundation will only be able to match fund revenue projects for 2 years.
A Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 allows a local planning authority (LPA) to enter into a legally-binding agreement or planning obligation, with a land developer over a related issue. The obligation is sometimes termed as a 'Section 106 agreement'. These agreements can act as a main instrument for placing restrictions on developers, often requiring them to minimise the impact on the local community and to carry out tasks, which will provide community benefits.
Such agreements can cover almost any relevant issue and can include financial contributions, which can be used, for example, for the enhancement of community halls and play areas; for the maintenance of open spaces; etc. However, S106 contributions are directly related to individual development proposals, and are required to make the individual development acceptable, and as such are not eligible for match funding from the Foundation.
The landfill credit tax system (LCTS) is designed to help compensate for the environmental effects of landfill upon local communities, and to encourage moves towards more sustainable waste management practices. LCTS funding provides an opportunity for local landfill operators to support eligible community/environmental projects that encourage partnerships between landfill operators, local communities, the voluntary sector and public sector.
Specifically, the LCTS initiative enables landfill site operators to provide financial assistance to community projects by redirecting up to 20% of operators landfill tax liability to local projects in the form of funding. In return for providing funding for local projects, landfill operators receive a 90% tax credit on the sum of money they donate.
The LCTS is an existing funding stream accessible at community level and as such any funding secured under the LCTS is not eligible for match funding from the National Sports Foundation.
